Turmeric is a daily used aromatic indian kitchen ingredient.

It is famous for its wound healing property ,let's know more about its use in gynecology & obstetrics

It is known as Halad in Marathi , Haldi in Hindi , Haridra in Sanskrit & having

Latin Name - Curcuma longa

Family - Zingiberaceae                    

Properties -

Rasa - Tikta , Madhur

Virya - Ushna 

Vipaka - Katu

Guna -  Laghu , Ruksha

Chemical Constituents -

Curcumin

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES & USES -

1. Due to Ushna guna , it works as - 

 a) Garbhashaya shodhan ( removes impurities from uterus) so used in 

     - Kaphaj yoniroga / shweta pradar (Leucorrhoea)

     - Sutika for easy passage of lochia. 

  b) Shukra shodhan ( purifies semen) so used in Shukrameha (Spermatorrhoea).

2. Haridra kwatha with honey is used as Garbhashayabalya (increases strength of uterus).

3.it also works as Stanyashodhana ( purifies breast milk by removing impurities).

4. it has one famous medicinal property as Vranaropk ( helps in healing injuries).
