As many people are aware of the use of caster oil as a purgative.
it is known as Aerand in marathi , arand in Hindi , Aeranda in Sanskrit & Caster oil plant in English.
but in this post , let's know about it's use in Gynecology & obstetrics.
Latin Name - Ricinus communis
Family - Euphorbiaceae
Properties -
Rasa - Madhur,Tikta ,Katu
Virya - Ushna
Vipaka - Madhur
Guna - Snigdha ,Tikshna, Sukshma ,Guru
Chemical Constituents -
- Ricin
USES -
1.Stanyavruddhi
Local application of caster oil and applying (tie) caster oil plant leaves - works for stanyavruddhi (increases breast milk in quantity)
2. Stanyashodhan
Drinking caster oil in small amount acts as Stnyashodhak ( removes impurities in breast milk).,so helpful in impure breast milk .
3. if it is uesd in less amount it works as - ( due to madhur rasa & snigdha guna)
- Vrushya ( Aphrodiasiac)
- Stanyajanana ( stimulates / increases production of breast milk) leading to stanyavruddhi.
4.But if it is used in higher amount , due to its tikshna guna , it works as -
- Garbhashyashodhan ( removes impurities from uterus)
- Shukrashodhan ( purify the semen)
so caster oil is used in Shukradushti janya vikara ( abnormalities of semen) ,
Shukrameha (Spermatorrhoea) , yonivyapada ( disorders of female reproductive system).
5. Root of caster oil plant has abortifacient property.
