"From Pickles to Peace: Understanding Pregnancy Cravings Through Ayurveda"

We’ve all seen the classic Bollywood scenes of pregnant women craving pickles and raw mangoes, often portrayed with humor. But real pregnancy cravings go far beyond these clichรฉs. They’re not just about the food a pregnant woman desires but can also include activities or experiences she feels drawn to.

Ayurveda offers a profound explanation for this phenomenon, describing pregnancy cravings as "Dauhruda" and referring to the pregnant woman as "Dauhrudini." Let’s dive into what this truly means and why cravings are more than just whims—they’re deeply connected to the baby growing inside.

What Does "Dauhrudini" Mean?

In Sanskrit, Dauhrudini translates to "the one with two hearts." This poetic term emphasizes that during pregnancy, the mother and fetus are intimately connected not only physically but also emotionally and energetically.

According to Aacharya Sushruta, after the formation of the fetal heart, Chetana Dhatu (the essence of consciousness) begins to express itself. Through this connection, the fetus communicates its desires to the mother, manifesting as cravings. These are the fetus's subtle way of seeking what it needs for proper development, whether it’s nourishment, comfort, or stimulation.

The Ayurvedic View of Pregnancy Cravings

Cravings aren’t just random urges but carry a deeper significance:

Nourishment Needs: Cravings for specific tastes or foods reflect what the fetus or mother may lack nutritionally.

Emotional Connection: Activities or experiences desired by the mother often reflect the emotional needs of the baby.

Balance of Doshas: Pregnancy brings natural imbalances in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Cravings can signal the body’s effort to restore harmony.

Pregnancy is a sacred journey where two lives are intertwined in body, mind, and spirit. Through cravings, the unborn baby communicates its needs, while the mother’s body responds with love and care. Ayurveda’s wisdom reminds us to honor this connection, embracing cravings that nurture and finding creative ways to manage those that don’t.

As a Dauhrudini, you are carrying not just a baby but the wisdom of generations, connected by the subtle language of cravings. Listen, nurture, and celebrate this incredible journey!

Have an interesting pregnancy craving story? Share it in the comments below! Let’s explore the beautiful connection between mother and baby.

THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD GO TOWARDS AYURVEDA !!

As Ayurveda is an ancient Science with Holistic approach & Now a days , Ayurveda is in focus during CORONA Times due to it's many benefits getting proved again & again.

๐Ÿ‘‰DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS THE AIM OF AYURVEDA ?

Aacharya Charaka describes aim of Ayurveda as -

It means maintaining the healthy status of a healthy person in healthy state.

 2) เค†เคคुเคฐเคธ्เคฏ เคตिเค•ाเคฐ เคช्เคฐเคถเคฎเคจं เคš -

Here , เค†เคคुเคฐ - means the person with diseased condition ( patient).

เคตिเค•ाเคฐ เคช्เคฐเคถเคฎเคจं - means curing the diseased state.

Thus , Aacharya Charaka described aim of  Ayurveda as-

Ayurveda is aimed at maintaining the Healthy status of  a Healthy person in Healthy state & also curing the diseased state of a patient.

๐Ÿ‘‰WHO  IS SAID  HEALTHY AS PER AYURVEDA ?

In this Aacharya Sushruta , explains about - Health as " A person is said healthy if he has Samadosha  ( Normal state of vatadi dosha's),Sama-agni ( Normal state of 13 sharir agniSamadhatu ( Normal state of sapta dhatu ) & sama-mala kriya [ Normal excretion of Mala ( like urine , stool, etc)] and he has Prasanna aatma , Indriya & Mana ( Having Normal Body and Mind - this relates with physical , psychological & spiritual health) .

And as per WHO

"Health is the state of complete Physical , Mental and Social wellbeing and not merely the abscence of disease or infirmity."

The health as per Aacharya Sushruta relates with the definition of Health as per  WHO ( World Health Organization) .

๐Ÿ‘‰WHAT IS THE SCIENTIFIC TREATMENT AS PER AYURVEDA ?

It means -

Scientific treatment is " The treatment which does not create a new disease while treating a disease.

In simple words Aacharya  explains that scientific treatment does not have any side - effect.

Thus , Ayurveda works on these principles for keeping your healthy status "Healthy" and if you get diseased , it cures your disease by its treatment " removing root cause of the disease", as said above with its scientific way i.e. without side-effects.

๐Ÿ‘‰AYURVEDA IN CORONA TIMES -

๐Ÿ‘‰As In corona times , Every one was using Immunity boosters of which widely used are golden milk/ chyawanprash for maintaining their healthy state.

๐Ÿ‘‰Also , if one was diagnosed with corona - was also treated with Ayurveda drugs like sanshamni vati ,ashwagandha vati , ayush 64 - without having side-effects.

๐Ÿ‘‰It is also seen that many of the mucormycosis patients are also cured and prevented from operations.

As AYURVEDA  Aims at maintaining your Healthy status  in Healthy state Without having  Side-effects , Why not to follow Ayurveda?
