MUSTAK - USES IN OBGY

It is known as Nagarmotha in Marathi , Motha / Nagarmotha in Hindi , Mustak in Sanskrit & Nut grass in English. 

Latin Name - Cyperus rotundus

Family - cyperaceae

                         

Properties -

Rasa - Tikta, katu , Kashaya

Virya - Sheeta

Vipaka - Katu

Guna - Laghu , Ruksha

Chemical Constituents - Kanda

Parts Used - oil

USES -

๐ŸŒฑStanyajanana & stanyashuddhikara -  Lepa on breast.

๐ŸŒฑStanya Shodhan ( purification of breast milk)  - 

- Musta works as Stanyashodhan & satyavardhan.

- Kaphapitta dushta stanya - musta kwatha is used.

- Lepa done on breasts purifies breast milk instantly

๐ŸŒฑShukratav-vaha srotas -

- As, it works as Garbhashaya sankochak , it is used in rajorodha.

       ๐ŸŒฑ Mutravaha srotas  -

- Mutravirchak ( stimulates easy passage of Urine) & decreases Basti daha so used in Haematuria , renal stones.

KHADIR - USES IN GYNAECOLOGY

It is Mainly used as Kushthaghna . it is also used for cleaning teeth.

It is known as khair in Marathi & Hindi, Khadir in Sanskrit & Cutch tree in English. 

Latin Name - Acacia catechu

Family - Leguminosesae

Properties -

Rasa - Tikta, Kashaya

Virya - Sheeta

Vipaka - Katu

Guna - Laghu, ruksha

Prabhav - Kushthaghna

Chemical Constituents - Catechin

Parts Used - Twak , sara 

USES -

1. Yoniroga 

2. Kapha , pitta, raktaj yoniroga - kwatha of Khadir is used with honey.

3. Dushta Kapha, kleda & Rakta from yonistrava gets decreased and so helps in raktapradara ( abnormal uterine bleeding) & Shwetapradara ( leucorrhoea).

4.In yoni roga  , Khadir kwatha is used for yonidhawan ( cleaning of yoni).

5.For Vranaropana ( Healing of injury)- Khadir oil is used.

6. Due to these treatments , Garbhashayshithilya & yonishaithilya gets relieved.

7.Due to kashya rasa , it works as Shukrashoshan .

MANJISHTHA - USES IN OBGY

It is main content of many cosmetics due to its Varnya property.

It is known as Manjishth in Marathi, Majith in Hindi, Manjishtha in Sanskrit & Indian maddar in English.

Latin Name - Rubia cordifolia

Family - Rubiaceae

Rasa - Tikta, Kashya , Madhur

Virya - Ushna

Vipaka - Katu

Guna - Guru , Ruksha

Chemical Constituents - Manjistin , Purpurin

USES -

๐ŸŒฑStanyashodhan - It is used Kaphapittaj dushtastanya .

๐ŸŒฑShukra-aartav vaha Srotas -

๐ŸŒฟ Due to Ushna virya , it works as Garbhashayottejak ( stimulates uterine muscles) & shodhan.( cleansing action on uterus)

๐ŸŒฟSo., it is used in Kashtartava( Dysmenorrhoea) & Anartava (Amenorrhoea).

๐ŸŒฟ it is used after delivery for Garbhashaya shodhan ( cleansing action of uterus).

๐ŸŒฟ Garbhashaygat apana & raja gets normal direction.( anuloman) so, Katiprushtashool gets relived.

๐ŸŒฟ so , it is used in Sutikaroga & Yoni Roga.

๐ŸŒฟ In Aartava dosha - Manjishtha fant  25 gm is used.

MADANPHALA - USES IN OBGY

 It is mainly used for Vamana karma in Ayurveda.

It is known as Madanphala in Marathi, Minphala in Hindi , Madanphala in Sanskrit & Emetic nut in English.

USES -

๐ŸŒฑStanya Shodhan ( removes the impurities of breast milk) 

  -  Due to Tikta & Ushna guna breast milk with kaphadushti gets purified.

๐ŸŒฑDue to Ushna virya , it works as Garbhashay shodhan ( Cleansing action of uterus) so used in puerperal state  for getting rid of  vaginal secretions.

๐ŸŒฑ It is used as Jwaraghna (relieving fever).

๐ŸŒฑ Due to Ushna & Snigdha guna , it also works as Mutrajanana ( stimulates / increases formation of urine) so helps in reliving Mutragata dosha.So used in Mutraghata (retention of Urine).

๐ŸŒฑ It also works as Mutrashodhan due to Ushna virya & Tikta rasa so used in Puyameha.

KAPIKACCHU - USES IN OBGY

It is known as Khajkuhali in Marathi , kapikacchu in Sanskrit & Cow itch in English.

Latin Name - Mucuna pruriens

USES -

๐ŸŒฒ Stanyavardhak ( Increases or stimulates production of breast milk ) -

    Due to Madhur rasa vipaka and Sheeta Virya , Production of  Stanya gets increased.

    Kapikacchu Beej are used in Stanyakshaya.(lack of breast milk).

๐ŸŒฒShukravaha Strotas -

  1.  Vrushya ( Aphrodisiac)

  2. So used in Shukrakshya ( decreased quantity of sperms) & Klebya.

  1. Works as  Aartavjanana [ stimulates or increases production of aartava ( Menstrual blood)] 

  2. Yonisankochak - so used in Kashtartava.

๐ŸŒฑ  Kapikacchu Churna -

   Kapikacchu churna is cooked with wheat flour and after it gets cold , then it is used with ghee & Honey.after that milk is given to drink - helps in Shukravruddhi ( increases production of sperms) & increases stamina.

๐ŸŒฑ Kapikacchu  moola (roots) Churna + Honey + Ghee + Sugar is used to increase libido in women.

๐ŸŒฑ Shirshool ( Headachae) ,Netrashool ( Pain in eyes) , Angamarda ( Bodyache) due to Shukra dhatu kshaya - Kapikacchu churna is used with milk & sugar.

๐ŸŒฑ Shukrakshyaj shosha - Kapikacchu siddha ghruta is used.

๐ŸŒฑ Roots - works as Mutral ( stimulates / increases production of urine) so used in Mutrakriccha ( difficulty in micturition) & in Kidney disorders.

๐ŸŒฑShukravruddhi (stimulates / increases sperm production) -

   Kapikacchu beej & Talimkhana churna is used with sugar and milk.

HARITAKI - USES IN GYNAECOLOGY

It is known as Hirada in Marathi ,Harad in Hindi ,Haritaki in sanskrit & Chebilulic myrobalan in English.

Latin Name - Terminalia chebula

Family - Combrataceae                       

Properties -

Rasa -  all  five except Lavana & mainly Kashaya

Virya - Ushna

Vipaka - Madhur

Guna - Laghu , ruksha 

Prabhava - Tridoshhara

Chemical Constituents - Chebulnic acid ,tanin

Parts Used - fruit

USES -

๐ŸŒฑPrajasthapan  (helps to conceive) -

   Due to Kashaya rasa , it relieves Garbhashay-shaithilya ( weakness of uterine muscles) and works as Prajasthapak.

๐ŸŒฑShweta Pradara - ( Leucorrhoea)-

It heals Garbhashay mukha vrana (cervical erosions) & decreases the infected secretions.

๐ŸŒฑHaritaki + Gokshur + Pashanbhed kwatha + Honey - is used in daha ( burning sensation) & painful micturition.

๐ŸŒฑMutraashmari ( renal stones) & saksht mutrapravrutti ( difficulty in micturition) - Milk siddha with haritaki beeja is used.

❌Contra-indications - Pregnancy.

If used in pregnant women , it decreases the growth of foetus due to ruksha guna.

DO YOU KNOW THE RELATION OF YOUR SKIN AND MENSTRUAL DAY ?

 As per Ayurveda , There is a relation of  your menstrual cycle & change in your Skin.

Ayurveda describes Menstrual cycle as "Rutuchakra".                     

                                                                          

Rutuchakra is divided in three stages as - 

1) Rajastrava kala 

2) Rutukala

3) Rutuvyatita kala 

Aacharyas describe doshadi dominance as per the stages of menstrual cycle.

Let's know about How Dosha's dominance changes your skin.

1) Rajastrava kala -

It is of 3-5 days having Vata Dominance.

                                            

Due to Vata Dosha gunas like ruksha , skin becomes dry & dehydrated.              

2) Rutukala -

It is of  12 -16 days duration.( different duration as per different aacharyas)

but practically , it is the fertile period from 6th to 14th day.

                                          


It is having Kapha dominance.

Due to kapha dosha gunas,due to its Mrudu & Snigdha gunas , skin becomes healthy , normal and glowing.

3) Rutuvyatit kala -

It is from 16th to 28th day with Pitta Dosha dominance.

                                        

Due to Pitta dosha , due to its Ushna guna ,skin becomes sensitive and prone for acne.

Chemical Constituents - Bhilwanol,semecarpol

Parts Used - Fruits 

USES -

๐ŸŒฑ Due to Ushna virya & tikshna guna it works as Garbhashayottejak ( stimulates uterine muscles) so used in kashtartava ( dysmenorrhoea)

๐ŸŒฑShukravruddhikara ( stimulates / increases formation of sperms)

๐ŸŒฑVajikara ( Aphrodisiac).

๐ŸŒฑ Aartavvruddhikara / rajavruddhikara ( stimulates / increases formation of menstrual blood) - it is used with bhallatak siddha kshir (milk) or bhallatak oil.

๐ŸŒฑ Mutrasangrahaniya (due to katu- kashay rasa, katu vipaka

Contraindicated in -

❌Pregnant woman

❌Pitta prakruti persons.

It is known as Malkangoni in Marathi , Malkangani in Hindi , Jyotishmati in Sanskrit & Staff tree in English.

USES -

๐ŸŒฑVajikaran -

    Due to Ushna guna , it works as Vajikara ( Aphrodisiac).

๐ŸŒฑ Kashtartava ( Dysmenorrhoea) -

-   Due to Ushna guna , it stimulates endometrium and increases the production of aartava ( menstrual blood ) so Jyotishmati oil is used with milk for this.

-    Leaves of jyotishmati are used in Kashtartava.
