ASHWAGANDHA - USES IN OBGY

Ashwagandha is now a days famous for its role in preventing covid 19.(explained in seperate post)

But , Lets know its uses in obstetrics & Gynaecology

Latin Name - withania Somnifera

Family - Solanaceae                                 

Properties -

Rasa - Madhur , Tikta ,Kashaya

Virya - Ushna

Vipaka - Madhur

Guna -  Laghu , Snigdha

Chemical Constituents -

Tropin , Anaferin

Medicinal Properties & USES -

1. Due to Tikta rasa , it leads to Agnideepan & due to madhur rasa & Snigdha guna - it leads to bruhan karma. so acts as Mansa & Shukra Dhatu vardhak.

2. Vajikarana ( Aphrodisiac)

 Due to madhur rasa & vipaka  -- > Shukra Nirmiti ( Formation of  sperms)

 Due to Ushna Virya - Shukra pravartan at proper time.

so it is used for Vajikarana karma ( Aphrodisiac)

3. Shukra virechak 

As Ashwagandha works as Sadya shukrakara ,  Ashwagandha churna is used with ghruta & milk for Shukravirechan karma.

 4. Yonishoolhara ( relives pain in vagina)

Due to Madhur vipaka , Ushna virya & Vatashamana --> Yonishoolhara.

5. Shwetapradar (Leucorrhoea) & Vataj Yoniroga

Ashwagandha siddha milk and sugar are used.

6. Stanyajanana ( Stimulates / increases formation of breast milk)

  kwatha of ashwagandha  with bhuikohala & yashtimadhu is used with cow milk.

7.Used in Shukra kshaya (less quantity of sperms)

8. Shukra daurbalya

9. Pradar ( abnormal vaginal discharge)

10.Garbhashaya Shamak ( Uterine sedativre / anti spasmodic)

11.Nidranasha (Insomnia)
