It is known as Jatamansi in Marathi, sanskrit & Spikenad in English .

Latin Name - Nordostachys jatamansi

Rasa - Tikta,Kashay , Madhur

Virya - Sheeta

Vipaka - Madhur

Guna - Laghu , Snigdha 

Prabhav - Bhootaghna ( Used in psychological disorders)

USES -

1.Garbho-unmad -

Shaman of Garbhashay gat & Majjagat vata-pitta so used in Garbho-unmad.

2. Jatamansi oil works as vajikarana ( Aphrodisiac) so used in klebya.

3.Due to tikta rasa & Laghu guna , it works as Garbhashayshodhan ( cleansing action on uterus) & Garbhashay shothaghna ( relieves oedema of uterus) and helps for formation of  normal menstrual blood. So used in Garbhashay shotha janya kashtartava (Dysmenorrhoea).

4.Sutika Unmad - ( Post partum psychological disorders) -

Jatamansi kwatha is used with Dashamoola.
